Meet the Team
Aquobex is an established specialist flood protection company formed by John Alexander and Gavin George. Based at Building Research Establishment (BRE) at Garston in Hertfordshire, we specialise in forming integrated solutions to mitigate flood risk for your, business, home, community or infrastructure. Our team offers extensive expertise and experience in this specialist flood protection market with specific criteria surrounding our solutions, to ensure they are accredited, guaranteed, independent and insurable.
Gavin George, Director
Gavin is Director at Aquobex Ltd which offers complete solutions for flood risk with an emphasis on independence, accreditation, guarantees and insurability. Aquobex offers clients insight into the whole of the market for flood products and services through detailed examination of test data and test witnessing.
Having been in the flood protection industry for 10 years with the market leader, Gavin has delivered the first major contracts for property level protection in the UK. These contracts helped steer the way toward mainstream capital funding becoming available for these forms of flood control.
Gavin is very concerned about the effects of man on the environment and is passionate about promoting softer, more natural forms of flood risk management above traditional approaches of hard engineering. He strongly promotes the usage of property level flood protection to counter the uncertainty that may come with restoring wetlands, reforestation and land management changes, seeing their use as entirely complementary.
John Alexander, Managing Director
John Alexander had been in the telecoms industry for over 30 years before entering the flood protection market in 2009. He has extensive knowledge of working in the Middle East, North America and Europe in a number of roles including business development, engineering, training, marketing and sales.
John’s breadth of skills are proving invaluable in this new marketplace as he shapes the flood control industry through a new and invigorated Flood Protection Group (FPG) as part of the Property Care Association (PCA).
Nic Ward, Engineer and Technician
Nic is recognised internationally as one of the leading experts on the design and implementation of flood control and resilience measures, especially in commercial properties, and leads the company’s consultancy services.
Prior to joining Aquobex, Nic spent 10 years working in the USA where flood management systems have to adhere to far more robust legislation than that which is currently in place in the UK. Before this, he was a founder member of the Flood Protection Association, a technical director for the PAS kite marking process and is the inventor of the Rapidam flood control system.
Brian Clegg, Technical Director
Previously an engineer, Brian has over 30 years’ experience in designing mechanical handling equipment for the exacting demands of the nuclear and offshore industries. Formerly an engineering manager for two UK companies, he is also a BSI technical committee member involved in the rewriting of BS EN standards.
Brian has formerly worked on the design and installation of equipment on French LNG sites, and now concetrates on developing Aquobex flood risk concepts. From the design through to the manufacture of our flood products, he also oversees their implementation and success.
John Panczak, Non-Executive Director
John qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC in London. He has worked as FD with several fast growth technology companies, including being co-founder of a biotech company raising £3m in initial funds, to an AIM flotation of a software services company raising >£20m.
For the last 13 years of his corporate life he was European commercial director for a highly successful software services company. Since taking early retirement he now works as business adviser to several ambitious companies including Aquobex where he is a shareholder.
