Failure to manage the risks of flooding and coastal erosion in a sustainable way will lead to continued loss of life and property, extensive damage to the UK economy and ongoing misery for millions of people. The winter of 2013/14 was the wettest on record with over 7,800 homes and nearly 3,000 commercial properties flooded.
