A versatile flood defence product with many applications, the Concrete Canvas material is being used on a variety of projects by organisations such as the British Army, UK Coal, Scotland Gas, The Highways Agency, National Grid, the Environment Agency and Network Rail.
Originally designed for the military, Concrete Canvas is supplied as a roll of material that, when unrolled and sprayed with water, turns into a 5mm to 13mm thick concrete overnight without the need for plant or mixing. The flood protection cloth is waterproof, fire proof, hardens to 80% strength in 24 hours and sets when fully immersed in water.
Various council engineering departments and IDBs in the UK are also evaluating this material for troublesome watercourses, with evidence of long lasting benefits, 100 linear metres being able to be laid in 3 hours. The natural cloth can also be shaped to follow an organic route with the woven cloth quickly attracting moss.
Easily laid on steep slopes and difficult weather conditions, the Concrete Canvas can also be laid where access by vehicles is limited. Setting underwater, the flood protection can be deployed during a flood emergency and still be effective.
