Wal-Mart Inc was founded in 1962 by Sam Walton. It is now the world’s largest company by revenue trading across 11,000 stores in 28 countries. In 2005 after a local flash flood at their global HQ in Bentonville, Arkansas, they trawled the world for a solution to prevent the repeat flooding of warehousing and offices.
After making a telephone enquiry into Floodguards, a technical team was sent from the UK to assess the site and design a solution.
It was decided that due to the low frequency of deployment, and the type of worker that would be set the task of deploying the flood protection, a simple to use system that required little organisation was the best fit. This despite the availability of slot in flood panels and aluminium stop logs across the US.
They also required a guaranteed leakage rate which was something the Floodguard product offered with its PAS1188-1:2003 accreditation.
Working with a US-based partner to complete the installation works, 20 Floodguard door barriers were installed to building apertures across a number of buildings. No reports of floodwater ingress or any problems with the products have been reported since.
